Biography

Mat Vaisberg is one of the few remaining Jewish artists still living in the Ukraine and is often compared to Mark Chagall.

Mat was born in Kiev where he attended Ukrainian Republican Art School and Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute specializing in book graphic arts.

Mat sustained and developed the concept of “arriereguard”, as properly humanistic narrative art, which opposes to postmodern imitation practices. Since 1988 he has taken part in great number of exhibitions, personal and group such as: “Art from Ukraine” Doctorhaus Gallery Oberdessbach, Switzerland; “Neu Kreis” EMPE Munich, Germany; Days of Kiev culture in Budapest, Hungary; “Urbi et Orbi” Museum of Judaic Prague, Czech Republic. His works are in collections of Museum of Russian Art in Kiev; Vilno Gaon Jewish Museum in Vilnius, Lithuania as well as countless private collectors around the world.
